GQ Australia’s Artist of the Year (2016), Harts, has signed to Washington Square Music, an imprint of Razor & Tie. The singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer’s unique brand of equal parts pop, electro, funk, rock, showmanship and irresistible melodies sits comfortably between the turn-of-the-century production wizardry of The Neptunes and Timbaland and the primal Monterey Jazz Festival fret-burning of ’67 Hendrix. It was this combination of things that led the late, great Prince to personally invite Harts to Paisley Park Studios and proclaim “he reminds me of myself at that age.”

“The little death,” or “la petite mort” in French, refers to, well, an orgasm, and somewhere between the literal definition and the slang is where frontman Jeff Klein situated the album. “Like any kid, I was obsessed with death and obsessed with sex. Some people grow out of it and start families and become normal people and some of us just stay the same,” Klein laughs. “I’m still obsessing about the psychology behind death and sex.” This duality bleeds through on the album, which flexes a lurid sexual energy, reminiscent of something between Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and Echo and the Bunnymen.
